Why we do that in Idaho
I’m not from Idaho, but I live and work here now as a librarian. I’m often times confronted with this strange attitude about new things. You’re totally familiar with it. Who isn’t? It’s called resistance, and fear… I’ve been told, among other scary things, “We don’t do that in Idaho” in regards to all sorts of normal librarian things. What normal is I will get into later. This blog is about pushing for services and technologies and ideas in a world full of an old way of doing things.
At first I thought I would be writing about why I do what I do here in Idaho, but it’s about collaboration, and not encouraging resistance. I think it’s important that we all work together.
The other experience that led to the creation of this blog was Internet Librarian 2007. I did not want to leave, but I left fully prepared to take on the great challenges that are ahead of me. Wish me luck and encouragement. I’m a new librarian in a strange old world.
